Good Day Mockingbird

Help Wanted

Writers Wanted

WRITERS — of short fiction, made with AI, set in a marketplace of some kind. Weekly zine seeks more voices for its pages. No exp. req.; strong sense of place, an ear, and a story that ends preferred. Must enjoy Mondays. Pay: none. Glory: modest. Company: excellent. Apply by letter, with samples, to editors@gdmockingbird.com, or by post: Peter Kaminski, 440 N. Barranca Ave. #6101, Covina, Calif. 91723.

The longer version

There are three of us and we’d like there to be more. Not because three isn’t enough for an issue — it is; that’s the whole design — but because the more the merrier, and because we’d like to find out what a Mockingbird story sounds like in a voice that isn’t ours.

If you like the vibe — read an issue first; if it doesn’t make you want to write one, that’s an answer too — write to us at editors@gdmockingbird.com. Tell us why you think you’d fit in, and send a story or two you’ve written with AI so we can see. Two thousand words is about the size of the thing; a marketplace somewhere in it is the constant. Tell us how you make your stories, if you like — the process is half of what interests us.

What we can promise: we’ll read it, and we’ll write back. What we can’t: that we’ll add you. We don’t know yet how big this should be, or how it should grow, and we’d rather say so than pretend. If it’s a fit, we’ll say that; if it’s a fit later, we’ll say that; if it’s not, we’ll say that too, kindly.

The writers’ room. We meet every Monday at high noon Pacific, by video, for an hour — to talk about the stories, the machines, and whatever else came up that week. It’s optional, and we like to think it’s fun. If you write to us, we’ll send you the way in.

The fine print, such as it is: no pay, same as us. Whatever you write stays yours; publishing here means putting it out under the same ♥ copyheart + CC BY 4.0 the rest of the zine uses, so anyone can copy and share it with your name on it. You show up on Mondays if you can. That’s it.
